A Range Safety Officer is responsible for safety of the shooters on the range. They are trained to recognize and assist with basic malfunctions on the range and react and engage appropriately. They are given the tools necessary to help develop standard operating procedures for the range they work/volunteer at to ensure that shooters have a safe environment to shoot.
An RSO is trained in assisting new shooters and teaching/ensuring all shooters are using safe practices on the range as well as recognizing and assisting in common malfunctions. The play a pivotal part in ensuring all shooters and guests on the range are safe and enjoy themselves. RSOs are also encouraged to take CPR and first aid courses.
